Saudi Aramco – 6 km Pipeline Sound Isolation with SoundBlanket® 60

Saudi Aramco required a robust acoustic solution to minimise radiated noise from critical pipeline sections running near noise-sensitive operational zones. MMT Acoustix supplied SoundBlanket® 60, a high-density soundproofing membrane, installed as an external wrap over approximately 6 km of pipeline. The result was a significant reduction in airborne and structure-borne noise, while maintaining access for inspection and maintenance.

System Objective:

Reduce radiated noise from long pipeline runs and localised hotspots, while keeping the system maintainable, inspectable and suitable for harsh desert conditions.

Client Challenge

Controlling Noise from Long Pipeline Runs

High-velocity flow, changes in direction and inline equipment can generate sustained noise along pipelines. For this project, Aramco needed a continuous noise control solution that could:

  • Provide measurable reduction in pipeline radiated noise over several kilometres.
  • Be compatible with existing pipe supports and expansion allowances.
  • Withstand outdoor temperature variations, sand and UV exposure (with suitable jacketing by client/contractor).
  • Allow access for inspection, maintenance and future modification.
